Disaster Recovery Planning is the practice of planning ahead for a disastrous event to determine how you will recover from an event. The objective of a plan is to determine what you will do to recover your services if you lose your primary location. Making decisions ahead of time, while people are calm, can save many hours and many frustrations under stressful times during an actual event.
Just as all University departments should develop a Business Continuity Plan for their business processes, a Disaster Recovery Plan for internal applications and workstations in your department should also be completed.
Although the Business Continuity Program’s primary focus for Disaster Recovery is recovery planning for UITS and the Office of the VP for Information Technology, the BCP staff can assist you in developing a DR strategy specific to your department. Our staff can also provide the information necessary to complete your plan relating to the central IT services you rely on to meet the documentation needs required by the university’s internal audit process.
Please do not hesitate to contact us as the need arises.
